Types and characteristics of rubber antioxidants
2024-11-13 16:24:37

There are many types of Rubber Antioxidants, and each has unique characteristics. The following is an introduction to the types and characteristics of some common rubber antioxidants:

1. Types

Amine antioxidants

Antioxidant 4010NA: light red to purple, brown granular, relative density 1.14, melting point 80.5℃. Soluble in oils, acetone, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide and ethanol, difficult to dissolve in gasoline, insoluble in water. It will change color when exposed to air and sunlight, with low toxicity, mainly used for natural rubber and synthetic rubber.

Antioxidant 4020/6PPD: light gray or white powder, mainly used for butadiene, isopentyl, natural, nitrile and chloroprene rubber, and can also be used for industrial rubber products such as tires and tapes. It has good antioxidant performance, can also resist ozone and flex cracking, and can inhibit the effects of harmful metals such as copper and manganese. Its toxicity and skin irritation are relatively small, and its solubility in water is good.

Ketoamine antioxidants

This type of antioxidant usually has special anti-ozone properties, and also has a protective effect on flex cracking and thermal oxidative aging. It is particularly suitable for products used under dynamic conditions, and can inhibit oxidation, thermal aging and weather aging under harsh conditions.

Other types of antioxidants

Such as antioxidant RD, antioxidant 124, etc., they usually have different chemical structures and mechanisms of action, and are suitable for different types of rubber products.

2. Characteristics

Protective effect: The main function of rubber antioxidants is to delay the aging process of rubber and extend the service life of rubber and its products. They can resist various aging factors such as heat, oxygen, ozone, light, flex cracking, etc.

Solubility: Different types of rubber antioxidants have different solubility in solvents. Some are easily soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, ethyl acetate, benzene, etc., while others are difficult to dissolve in gasoline and insoluble in water.

Toxicity and irritation: Most rubber antioxidants are toxic or irritating to the human body. Therefore, safety precautions should be taken during use to avoid direct contact with the skin or inhalation of their vapors.

Stability: Rubber antioxidants need to maintain stability during storage and use to ensure their protective effect. Some antioxidants will gradually change color in the air or sunlight, but this usually does not affect their protective effect.

In summary, there are many types of rubber antioxidants and each has its own characteristics. When selecting and using them, it is necessary to make comprehensive considerations based on factors such as the specific type of rubber product, processing conditions, and use environment. At the same time, it is also necessary to pay attention to safety protection measures to ensure personal safety.
